The Vernon Friends of the Library is once again bringing the best book recycling event ever to the Vernon Curling Rink this weekend.

Kicking off Friday, May 3 and continuing Saturday, May 4, the sale will see adult books sell for just $2 and children’s, junior and young adult books for $1.

Or buy 20 hardcover fiction, mystery, and/or science fiction books, for $20, half price,

All proceeds are spent on non-budget items for the Vernon library including plants, children’s area decorations and furniture, special shelving, honorariums for speakers, and the new Makerspace.

“We will be carrying everything the public library carries,” said Marilyn Courtenay, president of the Friends’ group. “Fiction, non-fiction, and audio-visual.”

A new addition to the children’s books this year will be a special table for seasonal books. Boxes and boxes of Christmas books, Halloween books, and Thanksgiving books will be offered, of special interest to daycares and kindergartens.

Also being featured is a selection of personal cookbooks donated by the owner of Los Huesos. She has recently retired and generously offered the amazing collection to the Friends.

The doors open on Friday from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. for an early bird look at the books for $5. Regular sales start at 10 a.m. and continue until 9 p.m. that evening. Sales start again at 9 a.m. Saturday and end at 4 p.m.

“We look forward to seeing old friends and new at the sale,” said Courtenay. “It’s your opportunity to stock up on reading material for the summer. One thing we do know – customers leave with armfuls of books and very happy smiles on their faces.”
