Vernon resident injured after being struck by vehicle

Police are investigating an accident in which a pedestrian was injured.

Officers were called to Okanagan Landing and Tronson roads just after midnight Wednesday after a 19-year-old woman was struck by a vehicle.

“She has fractured legs and lacerations,” said Gord Molendyk, with the Vernon RCMP.

“It will be a few days before she is healed.”

The driver of the vehicle stopped after the pedestrian was hit and the police were called.

Paramedics took the woman to Vernon Jubilee Hospital.

There are street lights present at the intersection.

“There is some indication that she may have stepped in front of the vehicle,” said Molendyk of the pedestrian, who has not been interviewed by police yet.

Officers will review the vehicle’s mechanical system and speak to witnesses as part of the investigation.

Molendyk would not speculate on possible charges involving the motorist.

“It’s far too early to say. We want to find out the actions of the driver and the actions of the pedestrian,” he said.
