Two golf courses in Kelowna are closed due to flooding and a third is down to nine holes after both Scotty Creek and Mill Creek spilled their banks.

Shadow Ridge and Sunset Ranch courses are both closed today while Kelowna Springs has nine holes open with its back nine holes submerged from Mill Creek.

“I’ve been here 20 years and there have been three floods, this is number four,” said Sam Pridham, assistant GM of Kelowna Springs. “The water is still rising it’s rose over five feet (since last night). It’s still coming up a bit but at some point it will stop. We’ve never had to close the whole facility, it’s always been just the back nine.”

Pridham added that if the water does keep rising, it could affect the front nine, adding it’s in Mother Nature’s hands.

Further up the hill in Ellison, Sunset Ranch’s home river is Scotty Creek, which raged over its banks last night, taking out a small bridge and spilling onto the first hole, forcing the course to close for the first time in at least a decade.

“This is as high as anyone has ever seen,” said pro Mike Loewen at Sunset, where some 200 golfers had their rounds cancelled on Saturday.
