UPDATE April 29:

Grindrod residents do not need to boil their water.

The Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO), in conjunction with Interior Health, advises customers supplied by the Grindrod Water Utility that the precautionary boil water notice issued for April 29 has been rescinded.

“The planned construction work did not cause a loss of pressure to the water system and the water system has been returned to normal operations,” RDNO said.

“You may experience some cloudiness and/or air in the water. Please run a cold water tap at low volume until the water has cleared.”

ORIGINAL April 27:

Some Grindrod residents will have their water service interrupted for at least nine hours on Monday, and a precautionary boil water notice will be in place.

The Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO) and Interior Health are advising customers supplied by the Grindrod Water Utility that they will be on a precautionary boil water notice as of Monday, April 29 due to planned work. A map of the affected properties is shown above.

The notice will be in effect until sampling results confirm that the water is safe to drink.

While service is being restored, people may experience some turbidity, which is normal. People are advised to run a cold water tap until the water runs clear.

The planned construction work is scheduled for April 29, which will cause a loss of water to customers. The water supply will be unavailable at affected properties from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and could be extended if unforeseen circumstances arise.

People are advised by the RDNO to store a short-term water supply for cooking and toilet use before the interruption.

An event causing loss of water can lead to depressurization of the distribution pipes, increasing the risk of back siphonage. The RDNO is required to issue a boil water notice and complete water sampling to ensure the continued safety of the water system. The level of service and treatment via clarification, filtration, and chlorination provided by the RDNO will be maintained.

All affected customers should boil their water for at least one minute when preparing any food, drinking, washing fruits and vegetables, making beverages or ice or when brushing teeth.
